I tried to find something on this problem below but could not.

When I go on eBay, for example, another page in comes up in background selling similar stuff.

This page first appeared after one of the MS Update intrusions. It is annoying as it occasionally causes an application conflict and sometimes crashes system.

I have used a number of adware freeware from member's signature references, but this window still comes up on occasion.

I would also like to strangle the people who do this, slowly, in public, naked, in the snow, or send them to work with George Bush.

    What is the scoop?

I love your fishing site. Good stuff.

    Couple of things
    - it would really help to know what OS version and service pack level you are running.
    - can you check properties on one of the background pop-up windows to get the URL? If so, post it here.

Probably also worth while to post a Hijackthis log so we can have a look.

Newt, Thanks. Appreciate the response and compliment.

The OS is NT and the Service Pack is 6.

Interesting thing is that I am now using the 98SE machine, which suffers no such tortures.

I engaged a pop-up killer on the NT system, which seems to have cured the problem, but not sure as I have not turned it on today.

Still, I wonder, since this marketing "biz.com" site did come up after a MS update session. It seems more like a trailer to searches, but I would like to isolate the marker or whatever it is called.

The hijack log you mentioned, I have seen mentioned on these threads and wonder how I do that...rhetorical, as I will check around to see where it is and download it...

Quicklinks in my signature has a link.

When you download, it will be a zip file. Don't run it that way. Unzip it to a 'normal' folder (so not a temp folder and not the desktop) like c:\antispyware or c:\hjt or something. Otherwise things go a little strange and you probably can't back out if you make a mistake.

Also, DO NOT fix anything from Hijackthis without expert help. It makes no attempt to separate good stuff from bad stuff but just reports all loaded stuff. It's left to a security analysis to sort out the wheat that needs to be there from the chafe that should be removed.
