help with XP Pro,98 &98SE

Trying to network these three computers. Have done all the usual, checked workgroup names, computer names. login names and password on the XP, IP and subnet are correct. ethernet cards all configured the same, can ping any computer from any other. Then it all stops. Trying to share printer on XP with the other two, that is prime concern. Also using an 8 port Belkin Networkswitch. help please

DUN 1.4 update installed on both the 9X systems? I know it say Dial Up Networking but lots more than that was updated.

Client for Microsoft Networks and File & Printer Sharing installed on all of them?

Something set as shared - file, folder, printer, whatever?

The network that I am trying to configure is at our local genealogy library, hence trying to get it all together without having to pay some guru big bucks when I thought that I had the skills. Have downloaded the patch as you suggested will install tommorow. In answer to your questions yes and yes. I had a breakthrough today when I checked the box enable LMSHOSTS. I then created a file in the same folder as the original lmhosts.sam and in that file I had something like:

192.168.0.1 charlie #PRE
192.168.0.2 alpha #PRE
etc for the three computers.

This was done on the XP Pro machine.

AND THEN I could see the shared files, printers etc etc on the two 98(SE) computers from the XP, but could not see the XP from the two old clunkers!!!!

Is there any other commands I should put in the file?

I will be at the branch library all day tommorrow and will check this site during the day to see if there is an answer.

Done!!

Have now got everything working. Installed netbeui, on all computers and it all came together.
