    When I try booting my computer I get:

    STOP: c0000218{Registry File Failure}
    The registry cannot load the hive{file}
    Systemroot\system32\config\software
    or its log or alternate. It is corrupt,
    absent or not writable.

    Then it flashes something about memory and dump and the reboots. Thanks for any help on this issue.

    Q307545 details what to do with XP when it gives that error but the recovery console instructions should be pretty much the same for 2K.

    And there is a long discussion on another "tech" bbs about this sort of issue with 2K Here that may help you out. There are a couple of posts in the thread about how to recover from the error and what to do next.

    From what I can find with some research, the problem is usually hardware related for versions prior to XP and there are some suggestions that the original SP2 triggered some of them.

    I do know there is a post SP2 patch available that addresses some issues that seem similar to yours.

    Thank you very much for the help. I didn't want to reinstall. System is back up and running. I just need to re-do some of my settings because it seemed to go back to default.

    Thanks again for the help
