Does someone have successful working experience with eMule peer-to-peer client on Win XP? Some people consider that eMule client can trouble/cause various problems for user system.

Truthfully, I haven't heard of any P2P that doesn't cause problems.

Sorry but no first-hand experience with eMule.

The main problem is that eMule required to have static IP address and to direct ports over there. If you are connected to the Internet through a router you have to do some port forwarding on your router in order to get a High ID.
If you get internet connection via router, and have no access to this router configure it, you got som called "Low ID ", this not allow you download files normally. Only High ID allows work normally and download files.

I am in a LAN which connects to a WAN via a router, I have no direct WAN connection.
There is also specific requirements which is enough difficult to solve: for example, if use a firewall - "Misconfigured "(for eMule) firewall might block the ports eMule uses hence the Low ID. Or the built in Windows XP firewall is enabled. If not "properly" configured the bulit in firewall in Windows XP will block the ports eMule uses hence the Low ID. So user must to configure the built in Windows XP firewall, - thats not easy.

I don't think you'll need to have a static IP address... access to 2 specific ports as reported by kenton is correct.

I've run eMule, but did so in a Virtual PC, so it wouldn't foul up my main OS.

Haven't had any Virus or Spyware problems on the virtual pc (running XP Home SP1).

But eMule supporters assert that I need to have a static IP address.
What you mean by Virtual PC? Have not heard nothing about. I have a real PC. And I have no access to router.(there is some PC which uses as router, and which distribute internet connection to other LANs)

No, this Virtual PC are absolutely useless. It just allows to create and run several different virtual machines on one hardware platform -i.e. run several different sets of operating systems and applications from one PC.
    I told about eMule.

I just ran Microsoft's new AntiSpyware (Beta) & it shows that eMule contains Adware Bundler

It's listed as low risk, and recommended to be ignored.

Haven't had any problems with that "PC ".

About Virtual PC: I couldn't live without it! If you do a lot of testing (what I do), you don't want to be fouling up your main OS...

I would recommend eMule to users, and would feel that it's pretty "clean ", probably the "cleanest" (i.e. the less problems with spy/ad ware) p2p software on the market right now.

There is a sense install this Virtual PC on clean hardrive only, when new installation, and if you use several platforms: Windows, Unix, Linux, OS - in one box(!). I have only WinXP and do not need ANY additional operating system to be installed. Plus, I do not have any wish to make system re-installation..

About the eMule installation: there are specified 2 ways:
    1. Installer v0.44d - this application installs eMule by a setup routine interactively, containing all languages and help files.

    2. Binaries v0.44d -this archive contains only the files you need to run eMule and needs to be unzipped, with 4 languages only.

If i don't want to install eMule, then i can just download the binaries, unzip it into some folder, and run emule.exe. Not clear: I don't I install eMule when I run emule.exe?
