Computer loses time.....

what could cause a computer to lose as much as 45 minutes per day? Maybe the battery on the motherboard?

 

Yes, most likely battery on the motherboard.

 

If a battery change doesn't fix, and you're using XP/W2K3 you could always change the frequency of the automatic clock syncronization (when connected to the Internet) which is set to once every 7 days (604800 seconds) by default.

Would replace the battery regardless, so that makes for 3 votes. Decided to jump into your thread because I have just the opposite problem on a couple of machines - that being a gain of time. Both are overclocked and its a known problem but did find a solution which works quite well, using minimal resources and its completely automated. I synchronize every three minutes.

 

Yeah sounds like you need a new CMOS battery. Rockster2U I have the same
problem as you do, my system clock gains time every once in a while also.
I have my CPU overclocked and I never really thought about that causing the
clock to gain time but hey you learn something new everyday as the old
saying goes.
