I have the same card reader by description, a translucent blue PNY Technologies USB Compact Flash and Smart Media Reader that no longer seems to exist, what a pain it has been. Hopefully by now you have found a solution, I bought a new card reader. It frustrated me to no end so I continued the driver hunt for XP anyways.

I put the model number on the back into google and it came up with a company called datafab which has a reader with remarkable resemblance to our translucent blue PNY reader.

Follow that link and if you open your reader as it suggests, you should see that it's acutally a datafab chip in the reader. The FAQ says that if you have a DF-USB01 chipset (which I have) the driver will not work. I downloaded the driver and it is working great for me with the CF (Don't have any Smart Media to try).

This is the link to the driver if you don't find it in the FAQ from datafab.

    Good luck with that reader.
