hi, okay i'm new at this virus stuff.. I have a virus, spyware whatever.. when i open internet explorer a blue search bar comes up at the bottom of my screen and wont go away.. also, there is a gray search bar underneath my google search bar that i also cant get rid of. i have adaware and it detects it supposively deletes it but the virus keeps coming back. i know this is a really common problem and i tried googling it to fix it but nothing is working and everyone wants me to buy some ridiculously expensive anti-spyware adaware software and i refuse! so i was just wondering if someone could help me out.. on adaware it shows up as "lop" not lop.com and sometimes my homepage will default to search200.com, not lop.com so i dunno if this is def my virus.. adaware used to show win32 trojan as the virus and i thought thats what i had now it got rid of that apparently and its lop. wow this is long! sorry and help please!

    Welcome to WindowsBBS silvrstr26 :)

Download HijackThis.exe from here. Save it to a permanent folder (I create a new folder in C:\ named HJT). Open and click scan, then save log. Once it is saved it will open in notepad. Select all from the edit button, copy and paste the results here. Don't fix anything with it yet! Someone experienced with the logs will advise you.

Scan again with HijackThis and place a check next to the following entries. Close ALL other windows and click fix.

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://www.qgqbsqhqvhzfjbcw.net/zG1...8MxSs0MYzJ9.cgi

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [P2P Networking] C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking\P2P Networking.exe /AUTOSTART
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [oydhsxjyoc] C:\WINDOWS\System32\fcatrj.exe
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Inter Program Rdr Open] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\bluecakeinterprogram\forarmy.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Third army] C:\DOCUME~1\MEAGAN~1\APPLIC~1\PLATFO~1\WINDOWGREAT BASE.exe
Are you familiar with either one of these entries? I could find no info on them so assume they are rogue and recommend removing the folders bluecakeinterprogram and PLATFO~1 from the appropriate shown directories while in safe mode.

Right click My Computer and choose properties. On system restore tab, check the box to turn off. OK out.

Go to start>run and type msconfig, hit enter. On the boot.ini tab, check the box next to /safeboot and OK. Yes to restart. This will restart your computer in safe mode. Logon to you user account.

Now in safe mode, you will need to show hidden files and folders, as well as system files.

Open C:\WINDOWS\system32 and delete the file fcatrj.exe and folder P2P Networking.
    Open C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB and rename realsched.exe to realsched.old
Open C:\Temp if present, select all and delete.
Open C:\Windows\Temp, select all and delete.
Open C:\Windows\Prefetch, select all and delete.
Open C:\Documents and Settings\Meagan\Application Data and delete the folder 1BIN~1 (Has the file Heart bolt.exe inside of it).
Open C:\Documents and settings\username\Local Settings\temp, select all and delete. Do this for all usernames.
Open My Computer, right click Local disk C: and choose properties, then disk cleanup. Check all boxes except compress old files and OK.
Uncheck the /safeboot box in msconfig and ok to reboot.

Back in Windows, you can re-enable system restore.

Scan your PC with RAV. If any files are infected, click the report button then copy and paste it here.

Run another HijackThis scan and post the log.

Open an Internet Explorer window and paste the following command into the address bar, then hit enter.

    javascript:navigator.userAgent

Copy and paste the text of the resulting window into your next reply. It will be something similar to this; Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; .NET CLR 1.0.3705)

edit note: I goofed a little when I split a thread and removed a response by Dave that was mostly directed to this thread. Here is his response

    silvrstr26,

Sorry it's been so long since I replied. Things have been busy and I didn't realize I had missed your last post.

A bit of info regarding Kazaa. This is not technically malware by itself, but it installs malware in order to run properly and it opens the door for every other nasty program you can think of. I strongly recommend that you remove it. Read this article for alternatives that will provide some of the same function without the garbage: http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/p2p/ If you opt to remove it, first use Add/Remove Program to remove it and any reference to Altnet and P2P Networking. Go to your control panel, then to add/remove programs...uninstall P2P networking...If/when asked whether you also want to remove Altnet components, say 'Yes'.
P2P Networking is a totally useless Kazaa add-on, and it's been reported to be responsible for serious system slowdowns. You may also want to run KazaaBegone to completely purge it from the system. Make sure to get the available LSPFix, just in case.

Scan again with HJT and fix the following entries.

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://zioulhgycrfszn.com/zG1EKH8kJ...MxSs0MYzJ9.html
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [P2P Networking] C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking\P2P Networking.exe /AUTOSTART
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KAZAA] C:\Program Files\Kazaa\Kazaa.exe /SYSTRAY

Reboot and delete the folder P2P Networking in C:\WINDOWS\System32
Empty all temp folders and recycle bin.
Reboot back to Windows and scan again, posting the new log.
    Are you still having problems?
