Since i installed Adobe Photoshop elements on my computer i have been recieving this error.
"The monitor profile "DELL E153FP G2.2 D65" appears to be defective. Please rerun your monitor callibration software "
i have the choice to either "ignore profile" or to "use anyway "
I don't think i have my callibration software anymore (whatever it is) and i have tryed contacting Adobe but this only led to long phone calls with no answers.
I have downloaded an update from Windows to fix a bug with my type of monitor but i don't know if this has anything to do with the error.
    The patch was

    "Dell Inc. - Monitors - DELL E153FPT
DELL Inc. monitor software update released on February 10 2004"

If anyone can help i open to all suggestions
    Thanks
    Alex

    Alex,

I don't have access to Elements right now and can't remember whether or not Elements loads Adobe Gamma into Control Panel (I use CS). Look in Control Panel and if Adobe Gamma is present work through that to set up a new profile.

Failing that reload the monitor drivers - a monitor profile is included with the drivers.

I found "Adobe Gamma" in program files, not under control panel. When i went to create a new profile i did not understand what it was asking me. At one point it asked me to turn the contrast on my screen up to full. My monitor only allows me to change the colour settings not the contrast or brightness so i skipped this stage. In the end i created a new profile (i didn't change anything as so to not break even more stuff). I don't think this is where the root of the problem lies.

Adobe Gamma is designed for CRT's so if you have a LCD it probably doesn't work on that! Certainly doesn't work on my laptop TFT screen.

So it's back to the other suggestion - reload the monitor drivers.

Suggest you ignore this profile programme. Maybe disable it if possible. If the monitor looks ok to you, then that's all that matters. Sometimes these types of profile diagnostic programmes are a bit to smart for their own good. I never use them. I would set the colour to True colour (32 bit) and a screen size of 1024x768 then use the auto calibrate function from the LCD's on screen menu. Adjust Contrast and brightness for natural black and white balance levels. This should be fine for a 15" LCD monitor. Update your graphics card to the latest drivers as well. Depending on your graphics card, you may get a calibrate programme in the driver archive. Usually the default settings are fine.

When i went into msconfig i noticed that Adobe Gamma was selected on startup. If it's wiser to disable it, should I stop it from loading when the computer is booted? I'm using an LCD but if Adobe Gamma is made for CRT's is there any point in even having it?

Give it a try and see if it makes any difference.

Rather than use msconfig try Startup Control Panel - this will avoid annoying messages from msconfig on the next boot. Startup Control Panel alows you to disable or delete startup items.
