    Well i figured out that my comp has some kind of software problem, since it doesnt allow me to connect to my router even when i..
    1) change pci ethernet cards
    2) switch slots
    3) plug in a usb network adapter
    Doing all this still gives me a no or limited connectivy with my router, i send out packets but do not recieve any packets. i think this thread is in the right section since it should be a software problem. if not please move.

    Win XP firewall problem?

    Try disabling the XP firewall and see if this helps:

    (from -> http://www.duxcw.com/faq/win/xp/firewall.htm )

    "Click Start, Control Panel, double–click Network Connections, right-click the desired connection, Properties, Advanced tab, Under Internet Connection Firewall, uncheck or check the Protect my computer and network by limiting or preventing access to this computer from the Internet check box. "

    Then download and install a free firewall from Zone Alarm -->
