    Hello,

I am running a Athlon 64 4000+ and when it was deliverd I found nothing in the packet that stated what a normal CPU temp was idle or under a load. It is sitting in a Asus A8V Delux and this particular board has a utility called PC Probe and I can monitor the CPU temp as well as fan speed, MB temp and Vcore

The problem is that I do not really know whats to hot and whats normal right now CPU temp is running on and off around 40 to 49 Celcius, 29 Celcius on the MB and the Vcore is running at 1.536.

I have looked on the web for a standard operating temp for all but have found nothing. If any one can direct me to some good reading or otherwise give me some numbers I would greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks in advance,

    FIREDANCER

That temp sounds OK, if a little high. What's it like under heavy load from gaming or processing. I'd be carefull in summertime or generally when the room ambient temperature is up.

The trick is to keep it reasonably low under a worst case senario situation. I.E. Heavy load on a fairly warm day. You don't want to have to keep monitoring your temperature all the time, although BIOS over temp alarms are a must for when something goes amiss.

    Paul,

Thanks for the reply, I guess what im trying to get at is what kind of temp is this particular CPU capable of handeling. The thing that bothers me is that I have a CPU fan and 7 case fans and like you it seems ok but should be cooler I would think. I guess I am going to contact AMD tomorrow and see what the deal is because when I bought the chip the sent there Heat sink and fan that was recommended for the 64 4000+.

I will keep your suggestion in mind and again thanks.

    Regards,

    Just a thought,

When I purchsed my hardware my AMD CPU came with thermal paste, (the grey looking crud in the center of the chip, it looks nasty :) ) anyways the ThermalTake case came with a whole lot of fans and a probe called a "Hardcano" and in the instructions for installing this thing, which were weak at best it shows the 2 small wires running under the chip and laying inbetween the pins on the cpu before it is seated down.

Well in my infinite wisdom LOL I looked at my cpu and said to myself...self something isnt right here, lets call ThemalTake. When I spoke to the tech at TT and told him that I had a 939 pin CPU he said that was ok that I could just use the thermal tape in the kit and attach the probe to the bottom of the heat sink as close to the cpu as possible with out making contact and that would do the trick.

Do you think that this probe might be causing a gap between the sink and the cpu? Wouldnt that cause a cooling problem if the cpu was not actually able to contact the heat sink so that the heat would disapate properly? Currently my CPU is running at 38C so the little tell tail monitor says but I bet if I go into the hardware monitor in the bios it will show higher :(

Another thought is ... in the case there is a harness of wires that chains all the case fans together with the PSU and the fan speed controls on the out side of the case. I have those babys cranked all the way up and they dont seem to be pumping much air out..or maybe it just cus there those silent fans that it seems there not running because I can feel the air comin out but thought it should be more.. I am not sure about anything right now... maybe I am way over my head on this whole thing. Anyways thanks in advance

What are you using for a PSU?
