I am not sure this is the right place to post this ? . I am running Windows XP SP2 on my laptop. I am using dial up service and it keeps unchecking automatically detect settings and checks Proxy Server. No matter how many times I change it click apply and ok out of it, it keeps changing it back. I cannot surf the net this way and before I connect I have to go in and make sure Proxy Server is not checked. Why won't it save my settings? This is driving me nuts. This is a new laptop and I did not have this problem on my other laptop. HELP!!!!!!!!!! It will change it while I am on the internet and/or also when i boot up. I have run spy removal and virus protection and nothing shows up. I use NIS 2004. I am totally confused as to how to correct this problem.

Try booting in safe mode, & changing it from there.

In safe mode I was not able to access my connections in internet options. I even tried selecting safe mode with networking and it would not show any connections. When I restarted again Proxy Server was selected. GRRRRRRRRRRR I'm lost~!!!!!

HUMMMMMMMMM I didn't understand that at all, sorry to say. "This hotfix only works on computers where Group Policy prevents access to the Connections tab or prevents you from configuring this setting." There is no group policy on my computer, I am the only user/administrator. I have access to the connections tab, just not in safe mode. A lot of good it does for me to have access, it won't save my changes

    I forgot this part
    "APPLIES TO
    • Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 Service Pack 1, when used with:
    Microsoft Windows 2000 Standard Edition"

does not say it applies to XP ....and i want it to automatically detect settings and my understanding of that post was that it was for when detect settings was on and you don't want hem on..... AND they want me to pay to find out how to fix this problem??????????

Just a note to let you know I have the problem resolved. I use Earthlink on my laptop when traveling. Seems the Earthlink Accelerator was the culprit. When I went into msconfig and stopped it from starting the settings were saved as I wanted them. Have no idea why it does that but I will contact Earthlink and find out.

    Thanks for posting back.

The reason could well be that the Earthlink Accelerator uses a Proxy Server to do it's "acceleration "...

Well all I gotta say is if that is the case, ít doesn't work!!!! You can't even get to the Earthlink home page if you have Accelarator running. How stupid is that????? LOL
