    Hello all,

Well I have gotten most of the build done but I am now stuck on something and am not sure what to do so heres my questions. I purchased a Thermal Take Case and it is set up at the top of tyhe case for 2 USB ports as well as what I belive to be a firewire port, and head phone jack and a mic jack. From the inside of the case it turns into four cabels at the end of 2 of the cabels it says VCC1, usb-, usb+ ground and then there is a extra ground wire hanging from it. The other is identical but it is labled VCC2.

Om my Asus A8V delux mobo at the bottom of the board there are two blue connectors marked as usb78 and usb56. Are these the plugs I am spose to use for the usb ports in the top of the case? The manual is very difficult to decipher and I have left a message for tech support to call me but :( no one has yet. The other 2 cables are the head phones and mic and I am still looking for a place to plug in all those tiny little wires LOL

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Regards,
    FIREDANCER

VCC1 is one USP port and VCC2 is the other.
It's been a while and my memory is a little foggy.

If you can list the name on the end of each of the connectors and give me the exact motherboard you have so I can download the manual I can tell you where each wire goes.

Also once I get the manual I can point out the jumpers to pull in your audio section.

    Ssmith10pn,

I have the asus a8v delux socket 939 mobo
The connectors in the case are as follows...

    one is marked
    VCC1
    USB-
    USB+
    grnd
AND HAS A LOOSE WIRE GROUND AS WELL (HANGING OFF THE END)
the second one is the same , only differance is it is marked VCC2

Heck the manual I am looking at doesnt even tell me where to plug in the smaller wire for the dvd burner I think its the audio output shrugssss :)

I have not even attempted to connect the built in fire wire port on the case as it looks compleaty differant as well ...thanks for your reply
was wondering can I connect these both to usb 56 or does one have to go to usb 78?

Hmmm guess im gonna have to searc a adaptor for my monitor too...gessh im ready to call it a night :( this is getting frustrating thanks tho :)

    Regards.

    :D :D :D

    USB 56 is USB 5 & 6
    USB 78 is USB 7 & 8 :D:D

1,2,3, &4 are out the back of the board by the PS2 ;)

Lets choose USB 7 and 8 for the example:

VCC1 goes to USB+5v (on the lower row which is USB 7)
    USB- goes to USB P7-
    USB+ goes to USB P7+
Grnd goes to GND on the lower row

VCC2 goes to USB+5v on the upper row which is USB 8
USB- (probably has a little number 2 next to USB-) goes to USB P8-
    USB- Goes to P8+
    Grnd goes to GND
And the extra wire goes to NC

When you get those tasks complete give me the list of the Firewire ends and we will address that.

FYI the newer Thermaltake cases have the USB wires in a modular plug and the firewire also.

What I ushally do is take those individual little plugs and carefully superglue them to each other in the order they go to make one modular plug. ;)

    Thanks,

I understand the layouts you posted for me but the question I now have for you on the usb is on the mobo where the usb plugs into there is only 9 pins total 5 on top and four on the lower row, do the extra ground wired need to be hooked up or can I roll those up and not use them?

The slot for the DVD audio wire is where I originally thought it went but it is far to short, guess I can fix that rather easily with some wire, solder and shrink tube :)

The cable that comes off the case for the firewire connection though is not a connecter it is many small (singular connectors) and it seems there are extras as the mobo has a 9 pin (5 top and 4 lower) and ther is I belive 10 or more on the cable.

The adaptor should be easy enough to get from a local computer store LOL if I can find one close enough. I live out in the sticks!!!! :)

Thanks for taking the time to answer these questions I will let you know how it goes as I can not power up the system for the first time until I get the adaptor.

I will probably have to lenthen all the cooling fan wired as well as there are 7 fans in the case and the manual says to chain them together in sections, there are four speed controls on the front of the case and I want to be able to utilize them all. Though in the power bundle where all the fans connect to each other there are 2 plugs with only 2 pins in them marked for power supply. I always thought that you needed 4 pins in the connecter for power.

Thanks for your time and help

I dont really think you will even need the audio cable unless the DVD will play the role of a audio cd player with the PC off.
I could be wrong on that though.

Yes just let the extra USB ground hang. It's redundant.

    Hi,

Ok, just so I have this straight as far as my 2 DVDs go that wire really isnt neccesary right? The only audio that would play from either one possibly will run through the external speakers on the sysytem, I have 2 small desk top speakers and thats it. If I do need them can I one set of wired from the burner one of the plugs and the other to the aux plug right next to it? Hoping I dont need them though. I am still fighting with the fans and power to them.

Manual says I can chain 2 or more for one speed control. I have 7 fans in all and want to set it up so that control 1 is only the fan in the top of the case and 2 would be the 2 fans at the fromt 3 would be the 2 side fans and 4 would be the 2 rear fans. I sould be able to do this LOL thanks again for your help I really do appreciate it very much.

I have an Xaser II and an Xaser III case so I know where your comming from.

I have one of the fan controls for the CPU fan. (Not OEM fan)
One for the fronts and sides and one for the rears and power supply fans.
And the 4th knob for the blow hole fan.

Mines a freakin mess because I pull so much stuff in and out.

My Xaser III case has a Asus P4P800-E Delux
    PIV 3.2 E
    512 x 2 Corsair XMS LL DDR 3500 C2
2 Seagate SATA 120 gig using the onboard RAID in Striped
    XP Pro

    The Xaser II
    Same Board and Processor
    512 x 2 of just plain Value RAM 3200
2 SATA 160s in RAID Zero and 2 ATA 180s in RAID Zero
    Server 2003 with Exchange 2003

Ok the status now is I have all in but a few little things. First off the firewire connection that comes with the case is as follows.

There are 6 wires and 2 grounds (one hanging)

    VG
    VP
    TPA+
    TPA-
    TPB+
    TPB-
    2 Grounds, one hanging

I left the DVD audio wires off for now until you say we do or dont need them
I have installed the usb connector on USB 5/6 and left the extra grounds rolled up

The last and final thi8ng I am not too sure about is a connecter that came with the case. it looks like a Y and at one end ther is a small connecter on the end that says CPU fan then there are 2 branchws off that one is a single wire with a small connector that says for M/B the other says for the PCB fan connector. I found a wire in the cast at the top near the fan speed controls and it says for PCB power connetor. I am not sure what these do, would it be used for the cpu fan speed? if so I have a Hardcano Temp monitor on the cpu but I am not sure how this other works as the manual says nothing of it

    Thanks again,

    VG = +12V
    VP = +12V
    TPA+ = TPA0+
    TPA- = TPA0-
    TPB+ = TPB0+
    TPB- = TPB0-
    2 Grounds, one hanging

Plug your CPU fan into the one marked "CPU Fan "
Plug the one marked M/B (This reports the fan RPM to the MB) where the CPU fan would normally plug into the M/B

The one from the case marked "For Power Supply" plugs into the power supply to give your temp console power.
