I've never really managed cookies, but they do manage me. Recently an Oracle database that I access frequently went down for a day. Today I could not reach the login screen from their site. The Helpdesk suggested I had a cookie with a cached Oracle Error page. And apparently I did.

I deleted all cookies and I deleted all temp inet files.

When I returned here my username and password were not recognized. And I rerquested a password reset. So I'm back.

But I suppose I should avoid this. And I think clearing cookies was the event that caused it. Since I login automatically, using cookies on the WindowsBBS, and this a set-able feature, should I set an option that preserves my profile here?

Why should I bother to maintain the Temporary Internet Files? And how do I know when to? Why would I change Settings? If these are important practices, can it be automated?

    6.O from XP.

I'm interested in knowing what I should be doing with these old cookies and temp inet files.
