    Hi again,

I was wondering if there was anyone who could help me diagnos a (new) problem I am having with my computer...

I am running XP home and I am having some freeze up issues. Normally, the computer will freeze up whenever I am trying to save a file (of any type). If I do a save on an existing file, this does no harm. It freezes up also from time to time freeze up in only a couple of other situations, but not as frequent (exploring drives and folders, using the control panel). If I avoid these situations, my computer runs excellent without any problems.

For virus detection, I use Ad-aware, spybot, sypthon and hijackthis (unable to provide a log from hijackthis cause saving the file will cause a freeze) and they all come up clean (except for hijackthis...there is a couple items I am uncertain of but the log is short compared to others I have seen).

This freezing problem did start occuring during a time when I having another problem with my computer (see thread "ending program - smaple??? "). During this time, I did loaded around five to six different programs on to my computer, but only one before the freeze ups started to occur which was System Mechanic 5. I like this program and hate to hear this may be the cause of all this. I also un-installed Norton before the freeze ups and am curious to know if that could be a cause.

    Any help??? Thanks

    Shovel Guy

I recommend you start peeling the onion to troubleshoot this problem.

Your high probability vector is a filter driver. You need to disable your services that have filter drivers. Virus scanners, backup software, whizbang things from the internet, etc..

You can use the SETUP/PERF MPSreports from microsoft to see what filter drivers you have installed. Look for Filters.txt in the generated CAB file.

thanks for the program...unfortunately, it freezes on me whenever it gets to the point where it is "Getting VSSAdmin report" or something like that (but it is for sure VSSAdmin). Could this a clue?

Also, I am uncertain of the value of this bit of info, but when going through event viewer, this error appears several times right at launch:

"DCOM got error "The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. " attempting to start the service SENS with arguments " " in order to run the server:
    {D3938AB0-5B9D-11D1-8DD2-00AA004ABD5E} "

The service is set to automatic and has no dependencies so I am not sure what else I could do with it.

Also, on another note, I found another error message which claimed RoamMgr needed Spectrum24 Event Monitor to run. I turned on Spectrum24 to see if that would get rid of that message. Computer still freezes, though.
