    Hi,

Just a few minutes ago I wiped HDD on old pc (win98se) and ran a xp cd in and formatted to NTFS all went well up to the point in the install that I got this message below.

A PROBLE HAS BEEN DETECTED AND WINDOWS HAS BEEN SHUT DOWN TO PREVENT ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR COMPUTER

IF THIS IS THE FIRST TIME YOU HAVE SEEN THIS STOP ERROR SCREEN , RESTART YOUR COMPUTER. I did :)
IF THIS SCREEN APPEARS AGAIN , FOLLOW THESE STEPS.

RUN A SYSTEM DIAGNOSTIC UTILITY SUPPLIED WITH BY YOUR HARDWARE MANUFACTURE. IN PARTICULAR RUN A MEMORY CHECK AND CHECK FOR FAULTY OR MIS MATCHED MEMORY. TRY CHANGING VIDEO ADAPTORS.

DISABLE OR REMOVE ANY NEWLY INSTALLED HARDWARE AND DRIVERS. DISABLE AND REMOVE ANY NEW SOFTWARE AND OR COMPNENTS.

    THECNICAL INFORMATION:
    ***STOP 0X0000007F (0X00000000, 0X0000000000, 0X00000000000)

    BEGINNING DUMP OF PHYSICAL MEMORY.

What does this all mean and is there a way to fix it so I can cleanly install WIN XP

    best regards,
    FIREDANCER

Could be hardware or software, but since you wiped the drive, only hardware would remain...

In your case: 0x00000000 Divide by Zero Error

General Causes of STOP 0x0000007F Errors

    SurferDude2 and Arie ,

Thanks for the responces. It has to be a hardware issue and I am not sure how to go about nailing it down so I decided to relaod WIN98SE back on it and use it as a back up machine. In a month or so I am going to gutt the machine and drop a newer board and cpu in it with 2 512 sticks of ram, nothing to exspensive though as I am going to give the machine to one of my younger children to start learning on. Thanks again for the replys

    Regards,
    FIREDANCER ;)
