I have a Compaq 1675 notebook. Originally it came with Windows 98. A few years ago my daughter gave me a ME upgrade for Christmas. After installing it (I know- a BIG mistake) I had all kinds of problems were encountered. Trying to go back to 98 didn't go well. (Did you ever want to throw the computor on the floor?!!) Compaq suggested using the system disc that came with the computor- which I did. After doing so it indicated that I am now running 95.?? It has been working ok except that a lot of new software and devices require 98 min. My question is: How in the h--l do I get back to 98? (Do you detect some frustration?). Thanks in advance for your help.

    Two ways.
1.) Get a Windows 98 CD, and install it over top of whatever you currently have. Instructions to do this are on this site, search for "over the top install ".
2.) Format the computer, get a Win98 CD and install fresh (recommended). The only problem with this approach, is the total lack of drivers for Compaq devices in a new install. You'll have to hunt and fight to get all devices operational. Only recommended if you have another computer with reliable internet access and a method of transferring large files to the notebook (LAN, CDR/W, etc.)
