    Hi,

    When we go to C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Mail
we find multiple file folders for some of our folders such as:

    X's File (1).dbx Date Modified: 4/7/2002 1.95 MB
    X's Files (1).dbx Date Modified: 7/5/2004 8.82 MB
    X's Files (2).dbx Date Modified: 12/26/2004 4.71 MB
    X's Files.dbx Date Modified: 4/16/2004 8.57 MB

We only want one file folder for this particular file.

How can we get rid of the extra folders? Is it safe to delete all but the most recently dated one?

We would like to end up with just the X's Files.dbx if possible. Can we delete 3 folders and then rename the most recently dated one?

    Thanks for any suggestions.

Interesting location. I'd have expected to see the .dbx files in the various user sections under documents & settings.

I really can't give you a solid answer but it should be safe enough to try by simply renaming all the older versions to *.dbx-old so you can recover if needed then see what happens.

I don't run OE (prefer Outlook) but I do have it on my PC and took a look at the file storage information. It simply points to a folder where OE should look for the .dbx files so I'm guessing the above will work. Probably.

    Hi Newt,
I moved all but the most recently dated folders to a temporary file and everything seems to be operating normally.

Don't know how the .dbx files got to where they are. We have preloaded Windows XP Home (by IBM) on our computer.

    Thanks.

OE puts .dbx files in what is called the Store Folder (OE Tools|Options|Maintenance tab|Store Folder). If OE is set up with multiple identities (or users) and all have the same store folder, I guess you could have all the .dbx folders in the one place.
As Newt has said, it would be prudent to just disable any of those .dbx files rather than delete to see what happens and be able to restore if needed.

    Jim,
On our computer, when you go to
    Outlook Express\Tools\Options\Maintenance\Store Folder

    The Store Location is
    C:\Windows\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook Express\Mail

We have put all except the most recently dated folder in a temporary folder and Outlook Express seems to be functioning normally.
