PSU Concerns

    I just ordered a case that comes with a 350W PSU, but a PSU Calculator from Google said I will need atleast 388W power. This PSU only has to last until June. Will it last without burnin down my PC and melting everything? If it fails, whats the worst that will happen?
    EDIT: forgot my specs, I just realized these may help out.
    Celeron Socket 478 1.8GHz with Intel heatsink and fan
    ASUS P4B-MX mobo
    384MB RAM
    Radeon 7000 (upgrading to nVidia FX5600 or Radeon 9600)
    SB Live! soundcard

    Those programs which calculate the power needs of a PC based on the components fitted are a little misleading :)

    The 388W power requirement it calculated basically assumes that all the components are running continuously - clearly CD-ROM drives, burners and the like are not!

    I doubt very much that you will have any problems - if the PSU fails the computer ..... stops :D

    350 Watts is PLENTIFUL.

    You will probably using only 2/3 of your PSU or even less.

    And what are the AMPS for the PSU?
    (the sticker on the PSU should tell, all i need is the +3.3, +5, and +12)

    Hi MOBO.

    The numbers you quoted , +3.3, +5, and +12, are voltages, not amps. Also, remember these power supplys are designed to give different amounts of amps for the different voltages. For a good read check out these two:

    umm..........i know, i was just telling him where to look. i was asking him to tell us how many amps on each voltage.
