Control Panel\Sounds, maybe disable the "Start Navigation" sound?

I once had a machine that had a little speaker on the motherboard. When it started getting too hot, it would chirp like a cricket. Turned out one of the fans had siezed, and there was some hot air inside the case.

We need to determine if this is the machine playing a sound file, or something else

Unplug your pc speakers, do you still hear it? If you are comfortable, maybe unplug the pc speaker as well.
Empty the CDROM and floppy drive
Open the case and sit close to it, can you localize the noise?
    Are all your fans spinning?
Did you add a new component to the machine that could be causing extra heat? (video card, hard drive)?

My daughter had a chirping sound like yours one time and come to find out it was coming from a program called weather bug. If you have that program you might check it's settings. Just a thought

Thanks for the responses guys. When the sound is turned off the cricket counds dont happen. I do have that program called weather bug. I will see if somehow that is the culprit.

*EDIT* I disabled the sound notifications on weather bug...I will let you know if that clears it up.
