am building a new amd 64bit system and i need a good 256mb video card but one that doesnt cost me and arm and leg. looking for some suggestions from someone who is using one.

system am building is a amd 64bit with an asus a8v deluxe board, 1g memory, 160g h.d., xp pro, dvd +/- rw with double layer, etc.

it appears in my research that they all come with a fan on the card am worried about that cuz i also read that if the fan goes out it has a tendency to burn the systemboard up. unable to find one without a fan. will also add a couple case fans to keep cool.

what a really nice video card to go with that system would be
Nvidia Geforce 6800gt 256 mb, but it costs $400.

You can get an ATI RADEON 9800 PRO or XT 256MB for around $230-$300.

yea, i saw that one to but quite a price tag.

am not sure if i want to go ati anymore. got an ati radeon 9600xt on my xp pro machine and it think its causing my machine to reboot itself every couple days. after installing the current ati drivers from ati's site could not get into windows after the install boot kept on rebooting had to go into safe mode and roll back the drivers. now am waiting for a blue screen to appear to see what could be causing the problem but am leaning toward the ati card.

chaintech has one on newegg from around 100.00. a 256mb agp 128bit. reviews were pretty good but know i heard something some time back where chaintech was having problems with their cards. dont know for sure but i know I cant afford 400.00.

link for the chaintech. have looked at albatron, jaton, xfx, aopen, gigabyte. all have the same types of reviews which were pretty good for each. all within 150.00 price as a high. dont really want to spend hundreds like some of the cards i looked at. dont really know if expensive means better quality or just expensive.
