w2k and addition of new hard drive

my original hd is17g. usingw2k as o/s..installed 60g hd as master,slaved 17g..used manuf. software for install.asked if i wanted to copy existing drive , i said yes..figuring it would be easy to format..boy,was i wrong..i cant format old drive..keep getting volume open message..i think theres some kind of sharing problem

 

How did you set the drives up?

Type = basic or dynamic
Extended Partition?

Are you using the 60g as the primary master (bootable) drive? And is the 17g jumped as slave on same cable?

 

i have the 60g set as master and the 17g on the same ribbon set as slave.i'm not sure which drive i'm boot from

Open "my computer" right click on C drive then select properties. If the size is 17g that's what ya booted to, if it's 60g then that's what ya booted to. Now close that & click your start/programs menu. Are all your proggys there as you remember? If not you are in the 60g hard drive,
