    Dell Dimension 2300 Series/128M ram/Integrated Intel 3D AGP Graphic?XP Home

Roughly 2 weeks ago, the monitor became unreadable; with resolution set at 800x600, the monitor screen was filled, but the words, icons, etc. were blurred.

If monitor is adjusted by "bringing in the sides ", the icons, words become readable, but the picture is centered in roughly the middle half of the screen.

Changing resolutin does not help. Tried uninstalling the driver for the 3D graphic card(?), and while the screen now fills, and the words are readable, it's down to 4 bit color and 640x480 resolution. Once the driver is reinstalled, the "scrunch" behavior returns.

Bad monitor? More ram? Bad battery? I've run Adaware-rid 7 items, ran Spybot-rid 109 items, NAV says the system is clear.

    TIA

Difficult to be specific here, but the first move would be to download the latest Intel driver for your video - the version you have onboard may be corrupted.

Seems you are not quite sure of the video set up - download Everest which should give you details under Display.

If you can substitute the monitor with another - from a friend - this will clear up the question of a failed monitor - this is a possibility.

Insufficient RAM - I doubt it as all was working previously, but 128 Mb is very minimal for an XP machine. At least 256 Mb recommended, 512 Mb preferred.

    Welcome Jepinto,

Try your box with another monitor to see if it's the vga or the monitor. Let us know and we can suggest more to try.

I've changed the battery and the monitor is better, but still fuzzy. But playing with the monitor controls, particularly contrast/brightness helps.

    Hi Jepinto,

As indicated above, substitution is practically the only method of troubleshooting this type of problem; either try the monitor on a friends computer or try another monitor on yours. A shop might try another vga card in your computer (turning off your onboard vga in the bios if possible - see your manual), but that's more complicated and it's best to do the simple things first..

BTW, is your rig still under warranty? Do you have a CRT or LCD monitor?
