    Hi All and happy days,
I received some .mpg files and they open fine with MS Media Player.
At the end of the play there are some ad frames I want to cut out.
Does anyone know of a free .mpg editor to do this ?
regards and thanks for any tips

As I recall Movie Maker was introduced with XP - I don't remember it in 98 and don't have a PC running 98 to hand right now - away from home.

    Hello,

The best you can get IMO is TPGEnc.
Installation: create a C:\TMPGEnc folder where you extract the zip archive, make a shortcut to TMPGEnc.exe on desktop/elsewhere and you're done.
    - run TMPGEnc, uncheck introduction and templates, to get the main window
    - go to File > MPEG Tools > Merge & Cut > Add
    - navigate to your clip.mpg > Open
    - select it (even it's the only one in the list) > Edit
    - use the cursor, { and } markers to select the wanted chunk > OK
    - press Browse button to select a name and a location to save this chunk you've been selected and give it Run
    - if you wish to extract more chunks, you need to repeate the operation for each of them
    - if you wish to merge more chunks, you first need to clear the list, then Add to select all
chuncks at once in reverse order *

    regards,

    Stefan

    * this is a kind of bug, I suppose, but this is the way it works
another bug IMO : if you select the beginning of the chunk somewhere but in the very beginning, you need to wait quite long until TMPGEnc will start working - it's as TMPGEnc wants to see the movie :)
