I currently have a 2.4x Memorex dvd writer as my only cd drive. I'm looking to upgrade it to a 16x dual layer (kinda cheap these days). I puchased a Micro Advantage 16x drive but heres my problem, when I burn a movie onto a dvd rewrite disc it wont play on my home dvd player. I never had a problem with my original 2.4x drive. It plays on my computer but not on the home dvd player. Im using the same software to burn the dvd, just changed the drive. I returned the MicroAdvantage drive and purchased a Cyberhome 16x drive, same thing, wont play on my dvd player. I removed that drive and reinstalled my old one and it works fine  . Any help would greatly be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Joey,

Suggest you try a DVD-R or +R instead of the RW disk. Let us know what happens.

I did not try a DVD-R or +R yet because if the RW's don't work with this drive its useless to me (I do alot of rewrites). Before I return the drive to the store i'm going to try it in another pc that currently does not have a dvd drive. I'll post my results back. Maybe the ol'e saying you get what you pay for applies here :(

Still, if the dvd-r works, you can always do your work on an RW and transfer it to an R to play. I do that all the time with my backups.

If I did that I would be wasting ALOT of dvd-r's.

I tried the drive in another pc and the rw still didn't work in the dvd player :(

    Hi Joey,

A "lot of dvd±Rs" cost less than a new DVD player, which I think is your only other choice. Try taking a RW disk to a store that sells players and see if you can find one that plays it. Here's a list of players to consider.

I returned the Cyberhome drive and picked up a Memorex 16x dvd drive for a little more $ and it works perfect :D I can play an rw on my home player just like before.
