http://www.file-recovery.net/ has active @ file recovery for windows. Try the free trial to see if it finds what you need. If it does then you will need to buy it to recover anything larger than 32 kb. The Home edition worked for me. After I bought active @ file recovery I found this http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/uk/welcome.htm pc inspector file recovery.I did not try it but I know their pc inspector smart recovery program worked well on my CF card.

    hello gghartman,

If you really want something good, good, then GetDataBack is the the choise.
There are many programs out there for data recovery, but they don't give you back your data well organized; when you need to recover, let's say 3 GB of data, meanning hundreds of directories and subdirectories and thousands of files, then it matters a lot if those data come back as they were in the first place, and GDB can do this!

    regards

    Stefan

gghartman--Does "data recovery program" mean you have deleted some files and want to get them back?
If so you probably know that the files are still on the hard drive, but now the hard drive thinks the space can be used to write new data. So number one is use the hard drive as little as possible. And number two that means you do not want to down load a recovery program to the hard drive, since you may write over the deleted files in the process.
So your best bet may be to download a recovery program to a floppy and run from there. Only a few such programs fit on a floppy. Restoration is one

no. data recovery in what i do is trying to salvage data from a drive that either isnt booting, drive making noises so want to backup data without going into system just in case it crashes, op system missing and need to see if any data still on drive to share.

most times when i get a drive in to work on and i cant attach to xternal drive, or another system and be recognized i basically tell clients she be gone. that the drive had a major stroke. need something above the normal recovery efforts that might be able to salvage something.

i know that with a mechanical problem with the drive most likely she is gone forever. can usually get a lot of data but a lot of times i can see the data but as soon as i try to access it from another machine drive becomes inaccessible.

    hope this makes sense.

I have bought just about every file recovery program on the market over the last few years. They are remarkably similar to one another. Most are no better than the PCInspector program mentioned above. But I have had trouble with that one on some machines---it gives memory errors, but that could be specific to SP2, or at least that is the present working hypothesis.

LC-Tech's File Recovery Professional is very good, too.

While you are at the Active@ site, look at their partition recovery program, too. I've managed to find and repair partitions with that little gem on drives that Windows claims are empty and unformatted.

For those partitions that it can't repair, this free one works well, too, though it requires a bit more technical knowledge:
