I mistakenly installed Roxio Winoncd 3.8 before I knew it was incompatible with XP now its in my add/remove applet
however it doesn't have an uninstall button? I have tried every uninstaller
program but they don't seem to be able to find it.
I have edited the registry. I am at my wits end.....Help.

Try installing it again to see if it then appears in the Add/Remove applet.

Have you checked within the program files for an un-installer? Sometimes it's called unwise.exe or similar. Sometimes it will be listed on the All Programs menu as well.

Other than that you have two options, manually dumping it and cleaning the registry or posting up on the Roxio help forum for attention.

I'd think manually dumping it should work unless you are having issues with it even when not used.

    Hi deltaman,
I must admit I was a bit amused while reading some google group hits on this topic. A poor roxio support (I assume staff member), "Adrian Miller ", was continually getting attacked for a product that is not supported by anyone but the German Side of Roxio...but this is a bit off topic so here is what I have concluded:

Apparently if it is not in your Control panels add/remove, there is suppose to a component in the drop down for the folder in your startbutton>programs list. I believe it is called maintenance something or other...Here is a cutNpaste of the quote I sniped from that reference:
I'm sorry I can't be more specific on the instructions but this was pretty much the meat of that post. Do you have any such folder shortcut with sublinks in it?

If your problems are complicated by a component called cd rom emulator or an extra drive letter added by this product you may looking at a future loss of cd rom drives. While there seems to some work arounds or fixes for this, you can cross that bridge when or if you come to it. Here is another group post with that scenario mentioned and included in it:
    http://groups-beta.google.com/group..._doneTitle=Back+to+Search&&d#d796dab107c66add

    Additional reading----
Here is the whole shebang from the google groups, I used as reference:
    http://groups-beta.google.com/groups?hl=en&num=50&q="Winoncd+3.8"+uninstall

I have to say that there are an awful lot of extremely unhappy campers in those Googled posts. Many threw in the towel and had to clean install xp. The bright side maybe that those seemed to be older posts and came before the discovery of a few registry tricks that you may or may not have to eventually try depending on the condition of your cd/dvd roms after you have removed this program. Again, why look for trouble? You can cross that bridge when or if you come to it.

NOTE:Before venturing further on this quest, I think I'd manually make a restore point or two.

    --Are we building a snowball?-----------
You mentioned editing the registry. What have you edited?

If a System Restore point was made before the install of the program then you should be able to just do a System Restore to it and then just plain DELETE the software folder from the HD. using Windows Explorer. I myself use PowerDesk. But it is basicly the same.

But before you go messing around Right Ckick on a shotrcut check Properites and see where the program folder is located.

Has worked for me many times when I was just testing new software.

SR.is supposed make a RP just before the install of new software.

But I myself do not fully trust it as I have had it fail to do that. I ALWAYS make my own. And then DOUBLE check to make sure it is indeed there. It only takes a few minutes and has proven well worth the time.

    Hi BillyBob,
While researching this, many tried the system restore method. The results were mixed. For some this worked while quite a bit more responded with a restore point failure. I'm not sure if these were the posters who had lost the use of their cd/dvd's drives or not. While I have high hopes that it will be as easy as this for deltaman I am expecting the worst. We'll have to wait and see....

Yes. it can go either way.

What should work and what does work can be quite different.

    Agree.

    Dumping Roxio

If Roxio is hurting something, then go to regedit and get rid of it if all else fails Programs are generally there. But, go to your regular cd/dvd writing program and if it asks, tell it to make it the prime user. That should make the Roxio program not be prime, at least I hope so. Then go to regedit. May work, may not. And don't touch regedit unless you know what you're doing. Same with sysedit, ini, exe files, etc. Making a computer work worse or not at all is worse than the present problem.

    There's a program out there called roxiozap.exe.
I cannot remember where I got it, but it left me with only a few registry keys
to clean. Maybe you can trace it with an internet search - it was a free
download. After I ran it, I used a regedit search for roxio and deleted what
was left. I posted about Roxio some time back as being the second worst
app to uninstall - 1st place was Symantec stuff and 3rd was Star Office.
Good luck - and DO back up your registry..
    regards

Yep, Merlin, I agree. The only thing worse than trying to remove Roxio completely is trying to wipe out Norton, any flavor. Both separations reuire a magnifying glass, toothpicks and tweezers. For third place, shouldn't CWS (Cool Web Search) infections come next? :D Glad you posted about Roxiozap. I forgot all about it until you reminded me. :) Guess you can tell I gave up on Roxio? I would have stayed with it, if I could have made it and XP quit fighting. It was a lot more "user friendly" than anything else out there, for simple burning jobs. Kind of ironic when you consider that the native XP burning software is based on Roxio to begin with, huh?

Do be careful using that zapper since it creams ALL Roxio apps. eg, if you have GoBack installed, kiss it goodbye too. Powerful tool.
