Removing prev owners details from my Laptop

    Hello Guru

I bought a used laptop some months back
    OS - Win XP Home
When editing MS Word docs, all the comments / changes I make display his name. Also he is shown as the creator / modifier of all files created on the machine.

How can I replace his name with my own?

    Some other pertinent info.
    1. I dont log in, when I turn the Laptop on.
    2. There are only two profiles I see when I choose the Log Off / Log on option, my own and guest.

Please help, I just got into a bit of trouble, when someone pointed out that confidential office documents were bieng edited by a stranger. I was most embarrassed.

    Hello farhadantia,

    Try the following:

    http://www.mcse.ms/message1265516.html

To take care of deleting the unwanted previous owner's folder after taking them over:

Try Safe Mode first. Boot up hitting the F8 or F5 key and delete, than reboot normally.

If the file still won't delete - Use Move On Boot, download from here: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/moveonboot.html to delete it. It will add a new item to your right click Context Menu, target that file with Move on Boot, and then reboot.

    Regards - Charles

Here is one from Kelly's Corner Number 7 on the right side. I haven't tried it.

Hi farhadantia and welcome. The replies so far will allow you to change owner details for your XP laptop itself but won't have any effect on the details within MS Word or other MS Office pieces.

I've moved the thread since I gather your question is mostly Word related and also changed the name a little to avoid confusion.

You need to modify some MS Office settings to change the 'owner' information. Please say what version and if you only have MS Word or if you have the entire MS Office package.
