Can anyone tell me if there is going to be a Netscape V.7.2 *compact\streamlined* version from Sillydog?. I have searched his site, but can't find any info there, that he is going to be releasing a streamlined version of the latest Netscape browser? If one is forthcoming, I had rather wait for it than install the one that is available from Netscape. So, does anyone know?

    Thanks much.

Sounds like the reinvention of the wheel, to me. Since they're basing it on Firefox, why not just use Firefox? Lean and clean!

    Hi Vanilla

I'm with you... I really want a lean version of Netscape. Antony will make one if they provide the tools. Until then my wife and I use Firefox and have learned to like it. But at heart I'll always be a Netscape fan and Firefox is just not Netscape no matter the gecko engine or heritage. Many of us are waiting to see what AOL will release in January. It should prove very interesting.

What do you mean by that? Do you think that anything will be released so soon?
Knowing AOL, most likely, but otherwise the prototype is just that. So many people flipped when they saw the appearance of the beast, and, for no good reason. Someone is just playing over there.
As for suite over individual programs, I prefer the latter, since I don't use Composer. My default mail is Thunderbird, and a link can be easily added. I am using FF1.0 now, and the Prototype has the little envelope to click on. It does not matter to me where the envelope is located.
It is not likely that a slim Netscape7.2 will appear, and I doubt that anyone will come up with one, for distribution (even if the tools would be available) with all the vulnerabilities which have surfaced.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I do not want to use Firefox. I think you have to do a lot of installing plugs, extensions etc. to have it really be a cool browser and I just don't wanna have to do that.

    Hi James,
Well, it seems to be just you and me, but anyway, that is 2 of us that love the *streamline* Netscape, no matter what. Maybe there will be a *streamlined version* sometime later down the road. Anyway, I hope so.

    Westside,
Sillydog on his site, says that the 7.2 streamline from him is *Pending* which leads me to believe that he will be releasing one sometime in the future. If that is not true, then why would he say the 7.2.v. is pending ? And, there is another site, I can't spell his name, but he says, once the security holes are patched, he will be developing and releasing a *streamlined* version also.

Maybe one of both of them, will reply here and let me know if indeed he or anyone will be releasing one in the future. In the meantime, I will sick with V.7.1...from sillydog. it is pretty stable on my machine, without causing any probs most of the time.

I know what you say. That notice has been there, but as soon as security deficiencies appeared no one has wanted to touch the beast. I doubt that there will be anything. AOL does not have anyone in house who can work in this.
And, the development of the new Netscape which is based on Firefox, has been subcontracted to a Canadian software company. Just don't hold your breath.
