Picture on screen only takes up 2/3 - left to right

I don't know if this is where this problem goes but here goes. On my computer screen, the picture will only take up about 2/3 of the screen -- from left to right. Meaning that on the left side of the screen, the picture (web page) starts (which it should), but it doesn't go as wide enough to go to the right side. So one third of the screen -- the right side -- is blank. What it does is make the type size tiny and my font size is already set to largest. Does anyone know how to correct this?

 

Is there anything else out there in that empty space? like, can you drag an icon into it? It could be that your monitor size has shifted, use the buttons on the monitor to resize if you don't have an auto calibrate button.

 

No, nothing is out there. I read an answer to this question asked by someone else but it didn't work for me. It just created another problem. The answer told was that web pages are made to fit 600 x 800 and if your's is not that, the page will be bigger or smaller. So I went to check mine and it was at 1024 x 1240 or something like that. I switched it to 600 x 800 and ended up making a new problem. I couldn't get to the bottom of the box that requires "apply" and then "ok ". The page ends about mid way down so the bottom half is cut off and there isn't any way to access it.

Any suggestions?

 

I should have added that that (changing to 600 x 800) did solve the problem. The page did go as wide as the screen. But then I was left with the problem of not being able to get to the bottom of a page when I need to change something and click on "apply" and "ok. "

 

what i'm reading is that your entire desktop, not only webpages, only goes out 2/3 of the way. is this true? if it is, try changing the horizontal size/position using the buttons on the monitor. Webpages should conform to your resolution as far as i know, if the resolution is to small, you should get a scroll bar. if it's bigger, the page will stretch/adjust to best fit.

If you want to "click" Apply, on the keyboard, press Alt-A (the Alt key and the A key together). If you want OK, press Enter.

The display of the 'screen' on your monitor is a function of several components.

Resolution: Make sure you are set for 1024x786
Refresh Rate: (see attached screenshot) Set it for 60 or 75 (try both)
Monitor controls: knobs and buttons on your monitor

If your refresh rate does not match your monitors capabilities, you can end up with some pretty odd things, such as the phenomenon you described. In your monitor manual, it should have a list of recommended refresh rates for a given resolution. Do not exceed these values.

It sounds like you are using 120 DPI, which will make the dialogs go off-screen at 800x600. You could set that back to 96 and get your refresh rate straightened out first.
