I tried the search but come up with nothing.

I'm running Windows XP on an IBM machine. 2.6Ghz 128Mb ram 80M HD.

I have a problem with the hourglass constantly blinking. It usually cycles at the following rate; 15-30 seconds off (just the pointer) then 2-3 seconds on (hourglass pops up). It never stops, it doesn't matter what I'm doing, internet or no internet, idle, working on a program, everything application closed, every application open, etc. If the computer is on it's poping up the hourglass. It's a real pain because a lot of times I can't tell if it's actually thinking or if it's just the random hourglass bug.

I've run Ad-ware, Spybot Search & Destroy, MacAfee Stinger and my virus program Antivir. Same thing.

Anyways, if anyone knows a solution I would appreciate it.

128 megs of ram for windows xp is a horribly low amount of ram. Bump it up to 512 and there's a real good chance your problem will go away.

    Thank you for the reply.

Yup! Dang...I knew this coming and it's my fault for not putting in my original post. I found out how horrible 128MB is for XP and I have 512 expected at my doorstep tonight as a matter of fact.

So...I will be trying that. My gut says it will not correct the problem because this was not a problem out of the box but just showed up one day. On the other hand I have added a lot of software and devices since then.

Side question. No problems with combining the two memories right?

    512+128 should = 640?

    Hi Crockett,

Depends on your computer. Check the manual's spec section to see what the limit is or the OEM's site.

    Blinking/Flashing Hourglass

Well, I upgraded my memory from 128 MB to 640 MB.

I have still have the same problem of the hourglass blinking/flashing.

Any other ideas how to stop this annoyance.

    Thanks.

Cursor blink rate in keyboard control panel? Outdated mouse driver?
