I can't find anything on this in search, only in email programs.

Some web pages keep giving me the red X !!!! I have tried to refresh and still get the same thing. I quess I must have some setting wrong again.

    Thanks, :)

If you don't have ad blocking software installed, below is the fix I used several months ago after even more months of battling the Red X problem. I haven't seen a red x on a web page since. The registry key doesn't exist on all systems. It must be created by some program or other, most likely a graphics program.

Open the Registry Editor and navigate to:
    1. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\PROTOCOLS\Name -Space Handler
    2. Go to File>Export and backup the two keys: http and ftp
    3. Then delete both http and ftp
    4. Close the Registry Editor*

*Usual warnings about editing the registry: Be careful, take your time, back it up first, incorrect and/or haphazard registry editing can render the system unbootable, etc.

If the fix Miz posted doesn't work for you take a look here under 'Red X'

Don't know how you searched, but
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/search.php?searchid=40851
P.S. Not sure what you meant by "only in email programs ".
P.P.S. I searched by looking for REDX. Separating into Red and X does not work, since X will not be looked for.
