The following problem occurs with my Firefox 1.0...

For example, when I left-click on a thumbnail image that is next to the large image at this ebay auction listing , nothing happens. I must right-click on the thumbnail image and then choose to open the link in a tab or new window to be able to see the large image. (This occurs with all ebay auction listings that have the large image on the left with thumbnail links on the right.)

This problem does not occur for me with Mozilla 1.7.3

Would some Firefox 1.0 users here please verify that the problem does/does'nt occur for them too?

I performed a search for images firefox in this forum but didn't find any useful threads.

I'm no expert, but tried the URL and have same symptoms as you. My guess is it's the way the web page is written and not the fault of FoxFire. I'm sure there will be others, more knowledgeable, that will give you a better answer.

Used Full suite Mozilla 1.7.3 (browser base for FoxFire).

Well, the page works fine with Netscape 7.2 so I don't think it's the way its written. Weird.

I tried NS7.2 and then FF1.0, and there was no difference, either with the thumbnail at the beginning, or those three further down at the right.
It sure is a weird contraption.

    Ff 1.0

I click on the thumbnails and the larger image switches to the clicked image.

If you mean, on the lower set of three, yes. But the end effect is that the chosen thumbnail becomes larger. The confusion may be that nothing is listed underneath the small images (thumbnails).
I use IE6 only at the last resort, and, what do you know? The Firefox display is better. My IE6 has one red X thumbnail. In other words it is blank, but it is magnified when clicked on.

Thanks, all, for giving it a try and providing feedback. Since Bill and Westside are apparently able to click on a thumbnail image and have the image show up in the large view (after the few seconds it takes for the image to load) I'm tentatively concluding Firefox 1.0 isn't the source of the problem.

However, I am confused that I can click on a thumbnail in Mozilla 1.7.3 and have the larger image appear.

Perhaps I have my Firefox misconfigured somehow. In the FF 1.0 options under "Web Features" I have enabled "Load Images" and disabled "for the originating site only ".

I was thinking my firewall or router may be interfering somehow, but it seems if that was the case, then I wouldn't be able to get the larger image to appear in Mozilla 1.7.3 either.

I'm scratching my head right now.

Thanks again for your help. I'll keep at it and see if I can discover the block.

Also could very well be your installation of FF. You might try uninstall and reinstall to see if that works.

    Ditto.

    Mailman ...

My options are set the same as yours, and I'm not experiencing the difficulties you are. You might try adding eBay to the "Allowed Sites" list (click the Exceptions button).

I concur ... The Firefox display definitely is better. Using IE I didn't get the red X but, when a thumbnail is clicked, the whole page goes blank and reloads, whereas in Firefox, only the image is reloaded, and it's virtually instantaneous.

While you scratch your head, uninstall FF, and then reinstall it, as Bill suggested. The problem may be there.

With "Originating site only" ticked, no images displayed when I loaded the URL. "Allowed exception" for the site would not allow images to display at URL load. When I unticked "for the originating site only" via options, all images were displayed on URL load. Hit F8 to display my PerfBar, which includes "images" on the displayed bar. When in FF options, if I ticked "originating site only" and ok'ed the screen, the tick in "images" on PerfBar automatically removed itself. When I removed the tick from "originating site only" in FF options, the "Tick" automatically returned to PerfBar "image" setting.
So, for my FF and Ebay, if I want to see images on URL load, I can NOT tick "originating site only ".

    Thanks again for the suggestions.

I uninstalled FF via "Add or Remove Programs ", ran Norton's WinDoctor to delete various registry entries that were no longer valid, and then I reinstalled FF (with a reboot after each of these stages). There is still no change in my browser's behavior.
I'm not familiar with the "PerfBar ". Is that an extension for FF? F8 does nothing in my FF.
That's the way I have "originating site only" set: UNticked. I should have been more articulate in my earlier reply to state that. I'll mess around a bit with the Exceptions - Allow and see if that makes any difference.

Another symptom that may be related: ebay auction images usually display in my FF but sometimes I get the broken image icon though and I have to right-click on the image area and then select "View Image ". Then when I go back to the page, the image displays. I'm wondering if my ZoneAlarm Pro firewall is blocking images sometimes because ZAPro thinks they're banner ads. This weekend or early next week I'll try shutting down my firewall (I hate doing that) and see if the thumbnail -> large image switch problem still exists.

I'll be sure to post here if I make any headway other than scratching my head. :)

Thanks again, everyone, for your patience and input.

Unchecking or rechecking the "Images" box on the PrefBar automatically unchecks or checks the "Load Images" box in Tools > Options > Web Features (and vice versa).

It's actually PrefBar, an extension for Firefox, and you can get it here. It's highly customizable, but I find its handiest feature to be the one which removes a webpage's background "wallpaper" to make the page more readable. It's called, or hidden, with the F8 key.

Now days so many programs "mix in" different layer of defenses, it becomes difficult to keep track which program(s) could be interfering. Have not used ZA-Pro, so can not comment on it's proper use. I use Kerio firewall. Managing "Web Filtering" does NOT require the firewall to be disabled ... just adjust the settings to meet your needs.

    PrefBar
Did not mean to confuse you .. yes it is a extension. :)

I have the free Zone alarm, same version as mailman, but SP!, and have no intention to downgrade to SP@ (yes, I feel that way). Presumably ZA overrides SP2 Firewall, but which one was installed last? In other words which firewall controls the computer?

    Westside ...

Doesn't matter which one was installed first, as you can always turn the Windows firewall off. When my computer boots, I almost always get a message that my computer is unprotected, because ZA loads late in the startup sequence.

As soon as it does, Windows senses the ZA firewall and the message disappears. Then, when you look at SP2's "Security Center" it shows "Firewall ON ", but it's the ZA firewall.

    Problem RESOLVED!

GPaDavis, Brett63, Westside, Bill, Jim, Dennis L:

I finally figured out the glitch! :D

Given that some of you reported no problems getting those images to show in the large image pane, I should have thought more about what changes I made to Firefox's configuration shortly after I installed. ARGH! At least I'll be better prepared to help others if I see a post with a similar problem. :)

I had modified FF's default handling of JavaScript. In Tools - Options - Web Features - Enable JavaScript -> Advanced... button, I had disabled "Allow scripts to: Change images ".

All is well now so I shall leave Mozilla 1.7.3 uninstalled and continue with Firefox 1.0 as my default browser.

    Thanks again for your assistance!

    mailman ...

Thanks for letting us know. The javascript options never crossed my mind, as I had never changed mine from the default settings.

It happens to the one who fool around with the settings more than the others.
I had decided that FF1.0 was worth, instaaling. I used it as an unzipped file before. I uninstalled 0.9.3, and I open the newly installed 1.0. And, it looked pretty terrible. No background colors, etc. So, I decided to check my settings, and sure enough I had selected to use my colors. This was to be able to read a webpage with dark blue fonts over black background, and did not change it back. The way the colors are handled in FF is not the same as in Moz.
Similarly the plugins. The Flash plugin must be in the folder.
