I recently purchased the epson c80 printer, which is usb capable and also has the windows XP approval, but I can't get the usb drivers to load. So I'm stuck using the parrallel port.

I have updated my bios and my device manager shows all my devices are working.

I have been running Windows XP for six months after upgrading from Windows ME. I finally ditched my all my files from the old operating sysytem after six months of no problems, and have had no installation problems through my USB ports until now. My epson new usb scanner installed correctly, as have other devices.

The epson manual state, in its troubleshooting guide, that for the usb printer to work under windows xp, XP must be preinstalled on the computer and not an upgrade.

Can someone help me get this printer working under usb.

    Thanks

wow!! Does the troubleshooting guide actually say that?

Anyway. Installed a C80 on a computer upgraded from ME to XP (home edition) couple of months ago. The computers at a different location so doing this from memory.

    Check this first.
After it's installed. Goto Printers and Faxes (in the control panel) - right click on Epson C80 - Properties - select the ports tab - and check that the USBxxx is checked for the printer. It might still be trying to go thru the paralell port.

    If that's correct.
    Uninstall the printer.
Install it using the instructions in the Start Here Card EXACTLY.
If you don't have it - instructions can be found at:
    http://files.support.epson.com/txt/sc80__/sc80__f1.txt

There was something there about NOT going thru the hardware wizard.

ALSO check the epson site for latest n greatest driver. Don't forget to download the status monitor afterwards.

Did you install the drivers before connecting the printer to the port?.

Had a similar problem with HP psc . Uninstalled and then did it the correct way.
I guess sometimes it pays to read the instructions first.
