Every time Windows 98 starts up, I get the following message:

"One of the library files needed to run this application cannot be found.
    UNICOWS.dll "

I can dismiss the warning and everything works OK, but I can't fix the problem or get rid of the warning itself.

When I looked up solutions, all I got was that I could write a script to fix the problem, but I don't even know how to write a script.

    Thank you!

    Hi MaryAC,

    Welcome to Windows BBS!

The one and only UNICOWS.DLL file on my Windows 98 computer is located in:
    C:\Program Files\MSN Messenger

    1) Do you or did you have MSN Messenger installed?
    2) Is there an entry in MSCONFIG for MSN Messenger (msnmsgr.exe) to load at startup?
    3) Do you have under Options > General tab in Outlook Express a check in "Automatically log on to Windows Messenger "?

To remove that error at boot, try the following:
    1) Go to Add/Remove in Control Panel and look for MSN Messenger.
    2) Highlight or select it and click the 'Remove' button.
    3) You will get a dialog box with two options. 'Remove' or 'Repair'.
    4) Choose 'Repair'.
    5) *IMPORTANT* If you do not want MSN Messenger on your computer, do a 'Remove' after it has been repaired.

Also, it's a good idea to reboot your computer after every repair and/or remove operation.

    Hope that helps!

    Regards,

It worked! I can't believe it! After living with this annoying message for so long.
    Thank you so much, ski.
