Background graphics/videos do not load after installing SP2- Specifically on sites that have advertising either on the sides or in designated areas. I have adjusted, changed several settings privacy, cookies, browser settings and COMPARED them to other notebooks and laptops (not running SP2) and nothing changes. One site in particular is jackpot.com -the wheels in the slots do not load and in the lotto area the click on ads do not load, also milesource.com - many of their ads do not load. I have noticed this on several sites. Ask Dr Tech was NO HELP!

Hello markska and welcome to the Board,

Have you "adjusted" IE's popup blocker? SP2's IE has a popup blocker that defaults to on. IE tools > internet Options > Privacy tab > bottom panel: Popup Blocker. Also can setup exceptions in the Settings for it.

If this doesn't do it, post back, SP2's firewall may be the problem, It blocks certain processes by defualt. Click on the Security Center either thru the tray or the Control Panel > Firewall and look at the exceptions Tab.

    Regards - Charles

    Thanks- However

I have adjusted almost every setting -the popup blocker is unchecked- The firewall exceptions includes ie,java, outlook and several others! and still nothing! As mentioned before the problem is on some FREE Gaming sites such as Pogo, Jackpot.com,Freelotto, Milesource and other sites that have banner/streaming ads!
I also changed Registry settings (as per Microsoft chat room--)FEATURE_LOCALMACHINE_LOCKDOWN subkey from 1 to 0 ---SAME RESULT!
Any more ideas other than re-instal which I did on another computer and with the initial install before any updates THEY WORKED-After SP2 NO!

    Hi Mark,

Have you looked at the cookie settings in the Privacy tab? In Sites and Advanced you can override IE's settings either on a per site or global basis.

BTW, you don't mention use of a 3rd party firewall, do you use one or is WF the only firewall in use?

    Regards - Charles

    Problem solved!

After changing all kinds of settings, disabling Norton, turning off firewall, and still had the problem--I finally started looking at the various other programs installed and BINGO--Norton Anti-spam, started checking settings and they had another ad blocker andpop up stopper--Disabled both and everything is OK! :)

Thanks markska for posting back on the solution.

Important lesson for me here - I usually do tell people to check on software conflicts be doing selective startups; in this just didn't think of it :)
