    Hi,

Had trouble using ICS, so I used WinProxy trial. I got connected, but my DSL company had me disconnect it to trouble shoot a problem. Haven't been able to connect since.

I want to use only ICS. Have an internal DSL modem in host, a switch and a nic in each pc. Windows Me for host, 98 for client.

Should both pc's be plugged into the switch, turned on, while I'm installing the ICS on mine (host/WinMe)?

I'm using Zonealarm Pro firewall, so I can open ports to use MSN Messenger and Internet telephony programs. By the way, I have a dynamic IP; my provider won't give me a static IP.

    All suggestions will be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Sue

ICS is funny, if it works, great ... if not...you may be out of luck. first thing you need to do, is make sure your network is ok. with both pcs on, and the switch on, can the two pcs see each other? you may want to install netbeui on both pcs long enough to make sure the network is good (i had a customer who tried for days to get his ics to work, I found that he was using a crossover cable as one of his patch cords....the pcs never were connected, he just assumed it was ics and kept reinstalling. That is why I recommend confirming a working network before anything else. you don't even have to have sharing installed, just get netbeui bound to your adapters, and do a net diag (from the run line of both machines...follow the directions. ) which will tell you if you have connectivity. remember, just because you have tcpip on both machines doesn't mean they will see each other- they need ip addresses....which will be there if ics is installed and working properly....an ip address starting with 169.x.x.x is just what the computer fills in when it can't get an address. a good address will start with 192.x.x.x unless you change it in ics. if the two machines see each other, the next step is to see if the other (non dsl modem one) is getting an ip address use winipcfg from the run line to determine. ping the ics machine using its computer name to see if you have tcpip connectivity.( it should resolve the ip address for you) if so, then you just need to get ics installed properly. hopefully it will just work for you, because i have had some nightmares with ics. good luck!
