I have been having problems viewing GIFs on certain webpages for a long time. Yahoo is full of blank GIF locations, as well some other web pages on MSN's game sites. Don't seem to have the problem on other web pages though. Having same problem with Firefox as well as Internet Explorer. Can't seem to find an option that would be blocking these. Thanks.

maass --Right click|Show Picture on the spot where one or more of those .gif files should show. If no help, click Refresh.
If no help, Right click|Properties on the spot where one or more of those .gif files should show. What does the Address line say? If it is the address of an advertisement, it is likely that you are blocking the site in your IE Tools|Internet Options|Security tab|Restricted Sites, or have the IE Tools|Internet Options|Privacy slider set to Medium High or have a HOSTS (not HOSTS.sam or LMHOSTS.sam) file.
Perhaps you are well off not seeing the ads, but if you really want to and do not know how to check the suggestions just made, please post back for details.
And if these are not advertisements, please also post back.
Do you confirm the problem is limited to .gif files, and does not also include .jpg files?
Do you have any .gif files on your hard drive? Can you view them just by clicking on them?

  3. to hide this advert.

maass--Well, I have the same problem over at www.Yahoo.com. For example, when I click on the RedX where the icon to access Mail should be I find that the Address is
    http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/ww/bt1/ml.gif
I am just guessing that this site has been pinpointed as a site that has some spyware problems. Do you run IESpyAds or some other source of information that puts problem sites into your IE Tools|Internet Options|Security tab|Restricted Sites?
I think us.i1.yimg.com is the problem. I personally have no problem with these sites being blocked. I can still see that if I want to get to Mail, I click on the RedX over Mail.
If you totally trust whatever Yahoo site it is that causes you problems, put its URL into Trusted Sites and see what happens.
P.S. I have seen a lot of HiJackThis logs that contain reference to us.i1.yimg.com. The suggestion is usually to delete that connection. I have not investigated further.
