    Hello,
I have problem with slow boot after install WinXp SP2.
Before install SP2 boot was normal. On Windows logo part of boot I see
    4/5 time blue line past.
After install SP2 this blue line go 20 times!
I put all my servicies according to BlackViper Safe version.
On start up I have just Kaspersky Antivirus 5.0. Nothing more looking
    in registry run folder.

    Bootvis indicated me this time:
    Disk: 0,85s
    Driver: 38,86s
    Prefetching: 47,47s
    Registry+Pagefile: 5,90s
    Video: 3,38s
    Logon+servicies: 8,91s
    Shell: 7,53s
    Total: 63,75

Only warning write is: Disk write caching disabled
All time seems to be normal but Driver and Prefetching is too long!
Deleting Windows Prefech folder, total boot file first time reduce and
be around 45 second. But on second boot is again around 65s.

KAV with today virus definition not find virus.
Ad-Aware and Spybot SD with last definition not find problem.
BootVis time is made also after disk defragment.
    What is my problem?

    My PC is:
    Motherboard:
    CPU Type Intel Celeron 4A, 2633 MHz (6.5 x 405)
    Motherboard Chipset Intel Brookdale-G i845G
System Memory 503 MB (PC3200 DDR SDRAM)

    BIOS Type Award Modular (02/02/04)
ASUS P4BP-MX ACPI BIOS Revision 1016

    Display:
Video Adapter Intel(R) 82845G/GL/GE/PE/GV Graphics Controller (64 MB)
    3D Accelerator Intel Extreme Graphics
    Monitor Philips 150E (94027911)

    Multimedia:
    Audio Adapter Intel 82801DB(M) ICH4(-M) - AC'97 Audio Controller [B-0]

Any kind of suggestion/help is very welcome

kigor - Welcome to the Board :)

In addition to Charles' suggestion go to Device Manager > IDE/ATAPI Controllers, expand this item by clicking on the + sign and double click on the controller to bring up Properties. On the Primary Channel tab ensure that Write Caching is enabled - should be by default.

    Hello,

Have had exactly same problem since installing SP2 - very long boot time.

PeteC's suggestion has indirectly solved the problem: I discovered that the primary and secondary ribbon cables had been inadvertently reversed. Changing them back to their correct configuration has stopped the hanging time during boot.

Hope that this info proves useful.

    Good luck! - JSudek
