I am trying to extract the SP2 into the XP-CD folder and at the end I get the following error: "update.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program.
An error log has been created. "
The extraction seems to be going OK and the little progress bar gets to the end, but I end up with the above error message.

Also wanted to mention, when it is trying to extract the SP2, it writes to a new folder on my next drive. (SP2 and the XP-CD are on my H: drive and I end up with a folder with nothing in it on the I: drive.
    Any ideas?
Yes, both XP and SP2 are on the same HD.

    Hi,

Are you using Windows XP to slipstream, or from Win2K?

Do you have spaces in the folder names?

That it writes temp files to another drive when extracting is normal.

Anything in the error log? Look for svcpack.log.

    Thanks

Yes Arie, I am trying to extract using win2000. Can I not do that?
I am preparing to upgrade my system and am getting a new hard drive and figured since I have a copy of Win XP Pro, I should install it along with SP2.
I will check the error log whn I get home.
I do have spaces in one of the folder's name, should I not do that? Does the command prompt dos emulator not like spaces?
    Thanks
    Mike :D

Sometimes it absolutely hates them. Always safer to avoid spaces since that is never a problem and spaces often are.

    Another try

Alright, I took out all of the spaces in my folder names and named them exactly as Arie did in his example. It still gave me that error.
How can you tell if the slip stream has worked? The temp folder I used to get after running the slipstream when it failed is not present. Maybe it worked fine, but I am just not getting the completed message?
Any ideas? I couldn't find the svspack.log file any where.

    On second thought....

My current system uses Win 2000. I have no problems with it at all. I have my own virus checker, my own firewall. Why would I want to upgrade to XP SP2? Can you guys give me some real reasons, or should I stick with what has and still works?
Oh...my lap top still runs win 2000 and I have it networked to my desktop with mapped network drives. Will XP mess this up? XP and win2K together?
    Thanks

I've seen it mentioned several times that it gives exactly that error when run from Win2K.

    But does it work?

So, if that error occurs, does that mean it doesn't work? Or has it actually worked, but I get that error? Confuuuusing....Any idea how to tell if the slipstram worked, besides the little pop-up box? Is there something I can llok for in the XP-CD folder to tell?
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks

I would try using a WinXP computer to do the integration. The "thing" is designed to run on a WinXP computer.
