I am so used to XP professional I have trouble helping Home edition folks.
What I am missing is how to set network permissions on a share so 2 home computers can share each other’s files.
I was looking to check off the simple file sharing but never found it.

If you haven't done this already enable the guest account in each Home computer. Simple filesharing uses that. You won't be able to get into different folders like programs,my computer,,, like you can with Pro-simple filesharing disabled. It can be frustrating if your used to Pro or Windows 2000.

BY the way you turn off Simple File Sharing here, in case anyone wants to know:

Open Windows Explorer or My Computer

    Go to Folder Options

Then the View tab. At the bottom of the list is Use Simple File Sharing

Dez - that's for XP-pro only. XP-home lacks the option and will only operate in Simple File Sharing mode.

ofergal - basic rule of thumb for messing with XP-home systems and running into problems (like the complete lack of a secrity tab for folders) is to boot to safe mode, log on as Administrator, and try stuff. If it won't work from there or if you can't see the options you need, chances are that XP-home won't allow it.
