I seem to have a problem lately and it seems to have occured after I installed SP2. My laptop has the same problem. They both run XP Home.
Some programs when I start them I get a protection error that a debugger has been detected, to shut it down and reboot.
As far as I know I do not have a debugger installed. I searched the internet and others have this problem and are told to do things that do not work.
Since this started when I installed SP2, is there a known bug in it?

    'Some programs'
Video games? A couple of new copy protection systems have come out that do not allow anything resembling a debugger to be running, so you can't haxxor thier copy protection.

This is very annoying to those of us who use debuggers all the time. If you identify the specific software you are running and get us a tasklist /svc output and we can probably eyeball the software causing the problem.

Note that tasklist.exe is not part of XP-home but if you download a copy from Here it will run fine on your PC.

It runs from the cmd prompt so start => run => cmd and then
    tasklist /svc > c:\tasklist.txt
and post a copy of tasklist.txt here.

Also check your event logs for detailed error messages (start => run => eventvwr.msc).

When you find an error or warning that is related, open it, click on the icon below the up/down arrows (sends a text copy to the clipboard) and paste here.
