    Hello,

I have two computers both running windows 98SE.On the first one, computer (A) if I save Jpeg images to a floppy when I go to drive A is see icons that look like a golden picture frame from with red in the middle and a paint brush pointing towards it.If I hover over the icon I see a preview in the lower left.
But if I put the floppy into my second computer (B) and go to A drive, the icons are different. They are a light blue E and if I hover the mouse over the icon it doesn't show a small preview in the lower left.
I want the second computer to operate the same as the first. Can anyone tell me what I need to do ?

    Many thanks.

Some program you installed on pc "A" took over the file association for jpegs. Need to install it on pc B.

On the computer you want to change, put the floppy in, open Windows Explorer, at the top of the window click on Views and click on "as Web Page "

Sassylassie--It seems to me that PC B is set up to open .jpeg files with Internet Explorer which does not support WebPage views.
Go to PC A, Start|Settings|Folder Options|File types|scroll to .jpeg|highlight|Edit|Edit. Copy what is in the line "Application used to perform this action" (or something like that). Now go to PC B, and go to the same Edit window. Is what is in the "Application used..." line the same? If not, write down what is now in that line (in case you want to go back to it), and change it to what is in PC A's line. (maybe reboot--can't hurt.)
What do you see when you put the floppy into PC B now?
Just out of curiosity what is in PC A's "Application used..." line?

    Sassylassie--Got me stumped.
I am assuming that both PC's open an image fine when you click on its icon, correct? Just that you no longer get the Previews from PC B.
And that you have right clicked|Properties on an image in both PC's to check that the File Type really is .jpeg.
Do you see any difference in what is at the very top of the screen (the Title Bar) when opening an image in each of the PC's?
It also is possible that the icon for .jpeg files is set up differently in PC A vs. PC B. If you go back to the Start|Settings|Folder Options|File types|scroll to .jpeg|highlight|Edit window (notice not the second Edit window), you should have the option to change icon. I have no clue whether that would help the functioning of the file.
    Good luck.

On both computers the JPEG image opens up fine with IE.

On computer A under Folder Options file types I have JPEG image and when I highlight it says below

    EXT JPEG JPG JPE

Below that is another JPEG image and when I highlight it says

    EXT JFIF

On computer B it says Folder Options file types Jpeg image

    EXT JFIF

there isn't another one saying JPEG JPG JPE I only have the one.
    Should I have both ?

Sassylassie--If those files are .jpg files, it should be easy to create the association with IE.
Hold down Shift and simultaneously right click on one of the files. Then click "Open With... "|scroll to iexplore|highlight|check box at bottom "Always use this program... "|Apply|OK.
If that does not help, you can try the following. I no longer run Windows 98 so cannot give you details, but in the File Types window, you should have a button called "New ". You can use that to create an association for .jpg and .jpeg files with IE. I think it is fairly easy to follow the procedure. The executable command file for IE is iexplore.exe. That is the file you want to associate with those file types. I believe you are given a Browse option to associate with iexplore.exe, so do a Find for iexplore.exe first so you know to what place to browse.

I am opening the files with IE at the moment so there already is an association with IE.
When I go settings, folder options, file types and find the
JPEG image and highlight it says Ext JFIF,content type (MIME) image/jpeg,opens with IEXPLORE.

But before I open the file in the folder to see the image, the icon is showing as a light blue E shape and I want the icon to show a golden frame with a bit of red inside and a paintbrush pointing in.And when I hover over the icon with the mouse I want to see a small preview in the lower left of the screen.

Forgive me if I'm misunderstanding what is meant, I'm only a beginner.

Sassylassie--I think your second PC is treating the files as if they are JFIF files. Apparently that permits opening them, but the icon and preview function are messed up. The suggestions I made should create an association of IE with JPG and JPEG. You have nothing to lose by following them--at least the first suggestion which is easy to do.

I went to settings, folder options, files types and Jpeg image and after that was Jpeg file, but Jpeg file had the light blue E for an icon.So I went to edit and changed the icon from the light blue E to the gold frame and now when I go into My Documents all the JPG images have the right gold frame icon.
So I'm half way there. :)
I must have had the JPEG image set up with the proper icon that I wanted but not the JPG file.

Now if I could hover over the icon and see a preview in the lower left that would be me sorted.

    p.s.
On this computer all I have is My Documents but on my other computer I have My documents and also My Briefcase. In My Documents when I hover over the icon I get the preview image on the lower left but in My Briefcase this doesn't happen.
So I'm thinking there must be a way to get the small preview image when you hover over the JPG icon.
