    Hi z4u,

You may have two problems, one with the motherboard, the other with the graphics drivers.

In the short term I recommend you do this:
When you install a program (drivers, etc) and the box comes up
Click No or Cancel. Go to the Start menu, click Shut Down (shutdown the computer, do not "restart "). Let the computer cool off for a few seconds, then power back up.
This is doing a cold boot instead of a warm boot which seems to be causing problems.

I lived with running my Asus motherboard this way for a long time.

    Long Term:
You could try getting the latest motherboard/chipset drivers from Asus and install those, then (uninstalling) reinstalling the graphics card drivers.

If want to try to solve the restart/warm boot problem, I suggest you do a BIOS upgrade/flash. If you have not done one before, get someone that has done a few to help you or take it to a technician/repairer, but ask to watch how it is done....it will save time($s) if you can download the upgrade file and the installer program onto a floppy disk ready to be run (make certain the upgrade is for your model, read all the instructions at Asus).

z4u, a BIOS flash is not really hard or needs a special step by step set of instructions (these should be found on the manufacturers website).
What you are doing is reprogramming the chip (the CMOS) that starts and "sets" all the hardware for your machine to work.
The thing that is of concern is the precautions you need for a BIOS flash.

    Some precautions:
The BIOS flash must be the one for your model of motherboard (if you flash the wrong one, your machine will not work properly or it will not work at all).
The model of your motherboard may even include a Revision (rev) number that may be important for which BIOS flash to use.
If there is an interruption to the flash process (like the power is disrupted) the chip will not be programmed and the machine will not work.

These are some of the reasons why I did not bother flashing the BIOS on my Asus motherboard for such a long time. Other reasons were that I was not sure if it was why the problem was happening.
    and...
Doing a cold boot instead of a wam boot was not a lot of trouble for me to run it.

I suggest you do a cold boot (reboot by shutting down, not restarting) when you install a program or drivers. In the meantime, investigate a BIOS flash. Double/triple check the model of your motherboard (are you certain of the model number? Look at the number on the motherboard itself if you are not sure). Read the motherboard manual about flashing/upgrading the BIOS. Read the instructions at the website when you download the upgrade.

If you are cautious and read the instructions you should be able to do a BIOS flash. If you try it without precautions, do not complain if your machine no longer works.
