I am now receiving this error on my laptop and my regular computer. Does anybody know how to fix this?

Thanks so much, because I have no sound on my laptop or computer.

Make sure that you have sndvol32.exe in your system32 folder. If it is there, it could possibly be damaged (although that would be odd on two PCs at the same time) but it wouldn't hurt to click on start => run, key in
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
and click OK to repair or replace any damaged or missing system files.

    Identify your hardware

Identify your hardware i.e. What sound card/chipset you are using for each machine. Download the latest drivers from the associated websites. Install the drivers.

Ok, I have fied my laptop. My laptop is a Solo 2150 made by Gateway. I have recently upgraded to Win xp home on it. They do not have a driver for XP, so I had to download Win2k one at gateway. Here is a good thread about this... http://www.totallydrivers.com/forum/thread.asp?thread=1035

Does anybody know how I can identify my driver on my regular computer? I had it builty and am not sure how to find out what type of driver I need?

I am trying to figure out how this happen. I did go to SP2 and I didn't like the way it was running on my laptop so I took it off. Not sure if this messed things up. My laptop and computer are both networked.

Also, thanks for taking your time to help me guys!

The Creative Labs SB AudioPCI 64V card is fairly common. I would have thought that XP would natively support it. But if not, then I would have gone to windows update and let WU scan your laptop for updates and under drivers there may well be a driver available for that sound card. The W2K driver will not necessarily be compatible with XP, so I would fully uninstall that driver before letting WU check for any updates. You may need to delete the device manager entry for the soundcard (if in there) after uninstalling the previous driver. Then do the windows update thing.
