    Hi,

I have reformatted a computer for my friend who has lost all his CDs in his last move. I have installed Windows 98 and have managed to get all the drivers loaded except for the one, "PCI Bridge ". When I start the computer each time this window comes up and tries to search for the driver and it can't be found on any of the drivers I loaded from Gateway.

I have downloaded and ran the Gateway Utilities but this doesn't solve any problem. Later they told me to:
"In order to install the driver for your PCI Bridge, I suggest you to
download and install the Bus Mastering Driver to your system. You may
be able to obtain the copy of that file by using the link below:
    http://www.support.gateway.com/support/drivers/getFile.asp?id=19156&uid=69677041

This didn't do any good either.

I wrote to them again and they told me to do this:
If the driver that I have provided below doesn't fixed the issue, try
downloading and install the Bus Mastering of your motherboard using the
    link below:
    http://www.support.gateway.com/support/drivers/getFile.asp?id=14557&uid=69677187

This didn't work either. I'm at a loss. Does anyone have any suggestions.

    Thank you for your help.

    Jean

    Question ..

    Hi Jean...

Does that driver they pointed you identify itself as "Intel Update "?

Assuming that page has the correct info for the machine you are working on, you should be seeing drivers for Intel chipset's.

You might try booting in safe mode, going to device manager and removing any flagged devices then rebooting. But usually Intel's update will do that for you...

If you can let us know for sure, can probably get you a link directly to the manufactures download site...

    Cheers
    Jake

Will this information be helpful to you.

Belar Adviser says that the Processor is 800 megahertz AMD Athlon.

    Thank you.

There seems to be some confusion here. The two links you posted direct you to two different items of which at least one can't be right. One points you to Intel chipset drivers, the other to AMD. The error message you're getting would seem to point to chipset drivers but you can't have both an AMD and Intel processor. Do you know which type it is and if so, what type of chipset it is?

    Edit:
I re-read your last post and see you have an AMD processor. Does Belarc tell you the model of your motherboard?

    Hi Again,

I'll try to copy in part exactly what the Belarc Advisor states and hope this is what you need to figure out this problem.

Processor - 800 megahertz AMD Athlon
    128 kilobyte primary memory cache
    512 kilobyte secondary memory cache

    System Model - Gateway 4000646

    Main Circuit Board
    Board: Gateway OAASNP05
    Serial Number: 4000646-C25
    Bus Clock: 100 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 0AASNP06 7/23/1999

Bus Adapters - AMD 756 PCI to USB Open Host Controller

Is the above helpful or should I try to send more information.

    Thank you for your time.

    Hi Again,

Well, I downloaded the site you sent me to and followed the instructions and installed the driver pack by going to Run amddrvpk_130.exe.

I wasn't sure exactly what happened but things didn't go right. When I finished I had many more ? marks in the device manager. Somehow, with trial and error, I managed to bring my computer back to where it was before I started so once again I have the original bridge error in the device manager.

What happens if I just ignore this error. It doesn't bother me when I boot up anymore. I just notice it in the device manager. Do you think I should just leave it alone.

I'm afraid this installation and error problems are far over my head. I really don't understand chipsets, etc.

Thanks for your help and if you want I'll try it again because now I have installed "Go Back" on the system but didn't have it before.

    Jeanne
