I am so disgusted with Windows Service Pack 2 installation. Ever since installation of service pack 2, nothing but troubles. I had plenty of troubles before, but all had been fixed and machine had been running flawlessly for months.

First, my machine and daughter's machine lost CD, DVD and floppy functionality. Now I see more posts, with the same problem. Finally got that fixed after a couple of weeks of fixes and tweaks.

That fix generates constant ATAPI errors on 200GB IDE Channel 1 Drive 0, can't find fix. Drive writes at 3.7GB/s and uses 98% CPU cycles. Four hours to format. Been working on this one for a week now. Drive ran flawlessly before Service Pack 2 and CD/DVD fixes. In same location, same controller cards installed as previously. Been up dozens of blind alleys trying to fix this.

While working on that, Management Console, Disc Management slows down to a crawl, takes 90 seconds plus to load or times out.

Now, Regseeker is generating BSOD. Had been using it successfully for a year. No More. Won't run.

Get one thing fixed and it mucks up something else.

Tried to do a repair install, Install disc can't find Windows installation. Talk about disgusted! ARRRRRGH!!!! Yes, I know I can use my 98 CD, but that will generate a new XP Validation. Just the thought of that is enough to make me puke. Which is one of the reasons (not the only one) why I won't do a clean install.

    Ahem.
Trying to stifle laughter...Catastrophy is at it again, huh? Martin, Wipe her and her evil right off the hard drive. Make her clean and new and start fresh. BSODs mean broken Windows. Show her that CD and LOOK MEAN!!

Johanna: Like I told you about a month ago, She had been behaving like the sweet lady she is. You may laugh, :p but before service pack 2, for two or three months, all was well. Up until the time the CD/DVD drives went south, no problems.

Look around the board, and you'll see my post on CD/DVD failure and several posts where others have encountered that problem. Heck, on my daughters machine, CD, DVD, Floppy disappeared after SP2.

Now, darn HDD problem where no problem existed before. Also had to update ATI video drivers, 3D apps started hiccupping. :(

My guess is Miss Catastropy just doesn't like having her innards messed with.

As usual, it is all MSFT's fault.
