    Hi

yesterday I updated my Sun java because of the vulnerability in the earlier version

I downloaded "j2re-1_4_2_06-windows-i586-p.exe" - after installing it I went here to check it out, the result was
but the steam-iron thing danced away merrily so I assume it's working OK

checking with scandisk I find a whole load of files with invalid dates, all to do with java, files created - 20th September 2068

I've now tried it on another machine, with the same result - and was wondering where I'm going wrong - or is this just a bug?

    best wishes, HJ

Just a quick reply as I'm passing through the forum...

This is a known thing with sun java and not a problem with your OS. You may want to go their support site and search this out. I believe the final result was or is the "behavior is expected and should be ignored ". That's the date problem this does not mean that you do not have some other problem going on with mixed file that would result in an updated java being detected as an older version. I have no knowledge of or have looked into this. Did you uninstall the older version before installing the newer?

    thanks for the reply Ann

yes, I did uninstall the old version first (to be honest, not at the first try! but discovered about this later via Opera help, then did it again)

also tried it on a clean install of Windows which had never seen Sun Java before: same "older version" at the test page, identical bad dates

also tried uninstalling then reinstalling a few other bits of software - to check it wasn't a more general problem (with the file dates) everything else seems to work OK

    best wishes, HJ.

For the record, the latest version is 1.5.0, though the Sun Java website and the installer both refer to it as 5.0.
