Earlier I posted that with Nero Express 3 I am unable to make a DVD video because when I add an avi file the program crashes...everytime. I tried reinstalling Nero etc but to no avail.

Here is the message I get after the crash

The instruction at "0x0067dd64" referenced memory at "0x01481fc0â€. The memory could not be "readâ€. Click on OK to terminate program.

However I was able to make a Video CD and it worked.

My guess would be memory related.
How much memory do you have?
If more than 1 stick of memory, try removing one stick at a time and see if the problem persists.

I found a reference to a similar problem as yours. Problem is it is from a Swedish board. Maybe Christer, our bi-lingual swedish member could translate for you?

A summary of the swedish mumbo-jumbo:

Uninstallation and reinstallation was suggested and carried out, plus an update. Made no difference but the error message became slightly different.

Nero Clean Tool was suggested, renewed uninstallation, cleaning and reinstallation carried out. Same result.

He tried using Super Video CD format and that was successful.

He conludes that the problem seems to be with DVD Video when dragging the film to the folder. (That is mumbo-jumbo to me ...... :p ...... I haven't got a DVD burner in this oldish computer.)

    Christer,
That sounds exactly like the problem I am experiencing. I wonder what kind of motherboard he has. I am using an ASUS P4C800 E Deluxe with dual channel memory(256 megs per channel). i wonder if the dual channel has something to do with it?

If You built the computer Yourself, then You know that shifting the slot of one of the memory modules will change it from dual to single channel "mode ".

On my friends P4P800, there are four slots which are color coded. A stick in a slot of each color = single, both sticks in slots of the same color = dual.

Update to my Nero Express 3 problem. As I posted earlier I could not "Drag and Drop" Avi files to burn to a DVD as Nero crashed every time. I downloaded Cucusoft(avi to mpeg conversion program) and now I can burn the converted avi files using Nero Express 3. Not sure why i need to perform the conversion first though.

Are you over-clocking your processor? I can tell you from experience that you can get these types of errors if you are. One example; the computer I'm using now is a P4 2.4GHz that's run at 3.0 for nearly a year and a half now without so much as a hiccup. Last week I installed a new program and couldn't run it because of errors like yours. I set the bios back to the default and the program runs fine. This is the only program that's ever given me any trouble. Just thought I'd mention it because it's an easy thing to overlook if you've been running it overclocked for a long time without any problems. One tends to forget about it.
