    Hi all -

I'm running Win98SE and I'd like to know if is it possible to rename a drive in My Computer from "Removable disk" to something else?

I have a printer with four card readers in it and a 'jump drive' installed. Both show up in My Computer as a "Removable disk ". If it's possible I'd like to identify them in My Computer as what they actually are. :)

As always - any and all help is greatly appreciated. TIA

Mike, in My Computer, right click on the disk you want to rename, click on Properties, then at the top change the name in the box call "Label ". Works on my computer for CD drives, don't know for sure about printer card readers and jump drives.

Edit: Just tried to rename my 3 1/2" floppy drive using the above. Didn't work, it just puts a label on the disk itself. (Disk has to be in the drive or the label box is greyed out.) Probably the same for your drives.

    Hi John -

Thanks for the post. Without a card in the reader or jump drive the "label" box is greyed out. With a card, it reads KODAK which is what the camera is. I guess that I'll just have to live with what I have.

    Happy Holidays ! :)

This won't solve the root problem, but it may simplify your life. Create shortcuts on your desktop for each of your removable disks. Determine what does what, then simply rename the shortcut. Renaming the shortcut is accomplished by left clicking the name under the icon once, pausing a few seconds, then left clicking again (thus not double-clicking). The name will blink. You can then type any name you wish.
