    I added an additional 128MB RAM to my computer, however it is not recognizing the additional RAM. There are two memory chips, but the computer is reading them both as 128, in lieu of 128 and 256. How do correct this error?

    Are you sure the RAM is compatible?

    BBS.com: RAM Compatibility...

    No, I'm not sure if the RAM are compatible. When you say compatible do you mean with the motherboard, or each other? Computer is my sister's and I am not sure whether it is pc 100 or 133. Is there a way that I can determine which they are without them being properly labeled?

    Can you clarify?

    You HAD 256 installed and added another 128?

    And, at boot time, does the bios recogize 256 or 384?

    If you install only the 256, is all recognized?

    And, with the 384 installed is it ALL recognized at boot time?

    check your product specs.
    I have hp model 4430 for example. My specs are as follows:
    ram standard=32 mb sdram
    MAX=256 mb (2X128 mb)
    sockets 2-168pin
    size=16,32,64,or 128mb

    I started off with 64mb, and bought 2ea 128mb sticks. That's as good as I can get.

    Hope this helps.

    THX GUYS!! It appears that the two chips were mismatched (PC100 vs PC133). Once I swapped out the odd speed and utilized spare chip of the same speed it registered correctly. Thx again for all your help. :D
